Dentview Fell Ponies

Breeding Fell ponies in their native Cumbria

My news!

August 2006: I have bought a prefix for breeding Fell Ponies! The prefix is to be 'Dentview', because we have a view of Dent Fell from our house, and it sounds different to most prefixes out there.

January 2007: Fell Pony Society Performance awards 2006. Princess was entered in two categories, pony 4yrs and over in hand; and ridden pony. In both categories we came 8th place out of 10 entries. I am very pleased with this as it was Princess' first year in the scheme, and we attended hardly any shows or events in 2006. We are of course going to try harder in future!

2nd April 2008: Princess is now back at Kerbeck stud for covering by Townend Huey (Sire: Guards Rascal, Dam: Lowmoat Holly). Huey does not need any introduction, being a popular stallion with good show success. Huey has spent most of his life at Kerbeck Fell Pony Stud, but is shortly being exported to the Czech Republic. Princess is pictured below on Jobby's fell, late March 2008.

24th August 2008: There is a new arrival at Dentview stud! Hades Hill Patience now joins Princess as a foundation mare for the stud, and will be covered in spring 2009 in the hope of producing a nice foal in 2010. Both ponies are now living in Gosforth, Cumbria.

31st December 2008: Winter is well and truly here and the ponies are doing well despite the cold snap at the moment. They are well settled in together now and get along great. Hopefully if all goes well Patience will be put to the stallion next spring. Pictured below, the girls together.

24/05/2009: The ponies have gone up to Kerbeck for Princess to foal down at stud, and Patience is going to run out with the stallion to hopefully produce a nice foal for us in 2010.

20/06/2009: Today was the Kerbeck Fell Pony Stud open day. A good day was had by all and there was a decent turnout, with the pony rides proving popular with adults and children alike! The ridden demonstrations went well, so all in all a good day! The morning started off with a bit of excitement and hard work running up and down the fell herding up ponies, but it was worth it! Expectant mother-to-be Princess was in the paddock next door to the displays and was very cross     that she couldn't come and join in; so she satisfied herself by running about and watching the demonstrations from her side of the fence!

30/06/2009: The first foal for Dentview Stud has been born! Welcome to Dentview Joker, jet black colt foal out of Princess sired by Townend Huey. He is already an inquisitive little man and has made friends with the Kune Kune pigs resident at the Kerbeck Stud!

28/07/2009: A big welcome home to Kerbeck Night Duchess! Duchess arrived back in Cumbria today and is going to be part owned by myself and Christine Robinson of Kerbeck Stud. Duchess has matured into a lovely young mare and we hope to get her out and about to a few shows as well as hopefully do some ridden work with her; breeding some foals from her in the future. Duchess is also Princess' Grand Daughter, which makes her all the more special!

26/08/2009: Well done to Princess for her 3rd prize at Ennerdale and Kinniside show in the broodmare in hand class! This was her first time at a 'party' for a while; and she seemed to enjoy it. Well done also to Joker who came 4th in the foal class and behaved quite well to say he had only been haltered about 3 times before the show! A very wet day, even the beer tent blew down, but nice to see so many good fell ponies at our local show!

20/09/2009: Well done again to Princess and Joker, gaining a 3rd and 2nd prize respectively at Borrowdale Show.    The sun decided to make a rare appearance, which made the scenery in the Borrowdale valley all the more spectacular! A lovely setting for a show with a great atmosphere!

News as it happens!
